Pedagogical principles
Sankt Nikolaj Skole offers the folkeskole’s tests at 9th and 10th grade and uses the folkeskole’s Fælles Mål. Common Objectives covers the two most important sets of academic texts for primary and lower secondary school subjects and topics:
Firstly, the binding common national goals in the form of subject objectives, key areas of knowledge and skills (final goals) and step goals as well as goals and binding content descriptions for the kindergarten class.
Secondly, the indicative curricula and descriptions of the development in the teaching towards step and end goals.
In addition, there are teaching guides, especially aimed at teachers.
For the free primary and lower secondary schools, the concepts of end goals, sub-goals and curricula apply.

Evaluation of quality
Evaluation of the teaching:
Parent interviews / evaluation interviews take place at the school, where there are personal interviews typically with the Danish and mathematics teacher in the smaller classes, and in the larger classes with several teachers involved.
The interviews take place on the basis of student interviews that the teachers have held with each individual student prior to the school-home interview. For these conversations, a conversation sheet is used, which the parents get to see prior to school-home conversations. In it, the parents can also attach comments to topics that they would like to discuss during the conversation. Topics that concern the individual child.
The parents are briefed on the student’s well – being, professionalism, commitment and development twice a year or according to additional needs.
The teachers internally evaluate the outcome of the students’ teaching in the school’s three departmental teams on an ongoing basis. 6 – 8 department team meetings are held in each school year. In department and class teams, the course of the year is planned in classes and departments, just as the students’ benefit from the teaching activities is evaluated.
Evaluation and focus areas 2020-21:
In the past year, we have prioritized two-teacher hours, especially in the school classes, but also had two-teacher hours in the classes that were scheduled to change class teacher during the transitions between the school’s three year group teams. It has been a success that we choose to prioritize going forward. From the teachers’ side, great satisfaction has been expressed with these two-teacher schemes, and it is the school’s intention to strengthen these in the coming school years. Certain elective lessons, which have been limited in demand by students, will in future be converted to two-teacher lessons.
The evaluation of this upprioriteing in relation to the students’ academic output takes place at the end of the school year 2020 – 2021.
In the past year, a number of resources have also been spent on teachers’ continuing education, which is also a high-priority part of the school’s work. The course collaboration with the other private schools in Esbjerg Municipality will continue and be further developed in 2021-22. The evaluation of this collaboration will take place in the school year 2022 – 2023.
The following strategies / focus points have been the benchmarks of the Board of Directors and the management in the past year and will also be so in the coming year:
a) Quality development of the school as an attractive school offer
b) Tight financial management
c) Focus on hourly management – human resources
d) Building maintenance
IT in teaching and digital uv. Funds.
The school’s focus areas
The school wants
- to strengthen the individual student’s self – confidence so that everyone feels wanted, valuable and good,
- to help students see the possibilities of human diversity and to show respect and tolerance towards each other,
- to create a framework for community and friendship, both in class and at school,
- to educate students to resolve conflicts through conversation and empathy,
- to develop students’ curiosity as well as desire to learn.
We take as our starting point that both school and parents do their utmost to give the students as good an education as possible through good cooperation. If the pupils use the after-school care scheme, the words school and schooling naturally also cover this.
The daily routine between the staff, between adults and students and between students and students is based on the Christian view of man: We are all created in the image of God and therefore fundamentally good, even if we do not always live up to it. Everyone has the right to respect and care. Bullying is not tolerated, which the adults clearly indicate to the students. Conflicts are resolved through dialogue between the parties.
Many and strict rules are not the right starting point for good cooperation, but that does not mean that we do not have a point of view. And the expectations are a good place to start the collaboration.
The school expects
- that the student meets ready for teaching – ie. on time, rested, with necessary materials and prepared – to learn as much as her abilities require,
- that the student is brought up to take into account and show responsible social behavior and addresses both other students and staff politely and in a nice language,
- that the togetherness and teaching is with heart, attitude and humor,
- that parents enter into a constructive and positive collaboration with the school, feel responsible for the student’s behavior and are prepared to assess a case from two sides in i.a. conflict situations,
- that the school is respected as a workplace for both students and staff, and that the school has a high priority in the student’s life – that any exemption from school is carefully considered.
