Hulvej Private School

Denmark

The history of the school

Hulvej Private School can trace its history back to a number of smaller private schools and institutes, the first of which was Mrs Fischers Institut from 1834. From the turn of the century until 1949, the school image in the city was dominated by two private schools, Forberedelsesskolen and Horsens Private Realskole. The two schools were merged in 1949 under the name Horsens Private Real- og Forberedelsesskole. The school functioned as a superstructure school for many of the smaller municipalities in the catchment area. The number of students increased sharply and in the late 1950s was over 600 students.

Timeline

In 1970, the school was transformed into a self-governing institution, and as it was popularly called Hulvej School, this was adopted as a name in 1973.
In 1991, a development work was carried out to determine the expectations for the private school after the year 2000. The conclusion was that the school also in the future has its main mission as a knowledge-sharing school that prepares students to continue on to higher education. Today, the school places emphasis on developing the whole person, through high professionalism, movement and community.
In the period 2008-2013, the school is undergoing a major renovation. Classrooms are being modernized, a meeting room is being built, a new physics room is being created and in 2013 the school will take over the buildings on Langmarksvej, which today goes by the name Gymhouse, and a movement house with its own jumping center, trampolines and grave.
In 2014, Hulvej Private School was certified as Denmark’s first profile school with a focus on body and movement. Movement is today an integral part of academic teaching, and the school has a large range of movement electives.
In 2016, the school’s facade underwent a major renovation with new windows and ventilation.
In September 2017, Hulvej Private School established a kindergarten located on Krudthusvej 3b. There is room for 82 children.

At the general meeting in 2018, the school’s name was changed to Hulvej Private School.
