Aalto university

Aalto University is mainly in Espoo International Located in the University , which operates technology, economics and the arts. It began operations on 1 January 2010 with the merger of three previously independent universities, the Helsinki School of Economics , the University of Art and Design and the Helsinki University of Technology . 

Aalto University has about 17,500 students and about 4,000 staff, of which about 390 are professors.

Structure 

Aalto University is divided into the following universities:

  • Aalto University School of Engineering
  • Aalto University School of Business
  • Aalto University School of Chemical Engineering
  • Aalto University School of Science
  • Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering
  • Aalto University School of Art and Design

Of these, the colleges of engineering, chemical engineering, basic sciences and electrical engineering were created as a result of the division of the original University of Technology in early 2011. 

At the beginning of 2012, the joint departments of architecture of the School of Art and Design and the School of Engineering were renamed the Aalto University School of Art and Design . There was a stir in the Swedish name, especially in English, and at the request of the students they were changed to the Aalto University School of Constituent, Design and Architecture and the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. The rejected forms were Högskolan för konst och kreativitet vid Aalto-universitetet and Aalto University School of Arts and Creativity.

The objectives of the university and multidisciplinary projects

Aalto University’s goal is to provide new opportunities for multidisciplinary study and research and to provide solutions to societal challenges through high-quality research and teaching. Aalto University also has a special national mission to support Finland’s success .

Aalto University also identifies the promotion of entrepreneurship as an important goal. A significant concentration of innovation has grown around the university , according to a study commissioned by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States , one of the five most promising university-based innovation ecosystems in the world. The university includes the Startup Sauna accelerator, the Startup Center and the Aaltoes entrepreneurial community . Entrepreneurship education is provided by the university through, among other things, the Aalto Ventures Program. 

The university’s multidisciplinary projects include Design Factory and Media Factory. So-called competence workshops are learning, teaching and research environments in which academic working groups and projects as well as companies or public entities collaborate. The aim is to promote internationalization, open innovation and interdisciplinarity, as well as new ways of teaching and learning. The research information generated in the workshops is utilized in teaching.
