The Water Management Authority is a state administration body responsible for implementing water management policies in Montenegro, in accordance with the principles of managing waters, water and coastal land, and water facilities
The Water Management Authority carries out measures and actions aimed at ensuring the availability and use of water, with long-term protection of water quality and water sources, protection of waters from pollution, regulation of waters and watercourses, and protection against the harmful effects of water.

Skadar Lake
Skadar Lake is the largest lake on the Balkan Peninsula. It is a transboundary lake shared by Montenegro and Albania. 65% of the lake belongs to Montenegro, while 35% belongs to Albania. The Morača River flows into it as the main water inflow, followed by the rivers Rijeka Crnojevića, Orahovštica, and Crmnička River. The Bojana River flows out of the lake.
The lake covers an area of 353–500 km² (seasonal variation), with a volume ranging from 1.75 to 4.25 km³ (seasonal variation), and a maximum depth of 8.3 meters. It is situated at an altitude of 6.5 meters above sea level.
Plav Lake
Plav Lake is located in the northeast of Montenegro, in the municipality of Plav. The lake covers an area of 1.99 km², with a volume of 7,691,000 m³, a maximum depth of 9.15 meters, and an altitude of 907 meters above sea level. It is situated at the foot of the Prokletije mountain range. The Ljuča River flows into it, and the Lim River flows out. The lake is rich in fish. During the summer, the water is warm enough for swimming, while in winter the surface freezes, allowing people to walk on it.
Škrčka Lakes
Veliko Škrčko Lake has an area of 0.11 km², a volume of 335,000 m³, a maximum depth of 17.2 meters, and is situated at an altitude of 1700 meters.
Malo Škrčko Lake covers an area of 0.014 km², has a volume of 63,500 m³, a maximum depth of 15.2 meters, and is located at an altitude of 1730 meters.
The Škrčka Lakes are among the highest hydrographic features on Durmitor and can only be reached by hiking trails. They are located in the municipality of Plužine.
Black Lake
Black Lake is a glacial lake located in the north of Montenegro, in the municipality of Žabljak. It consists of two lakes, the Big Lake and the Small Lake, with a total area of 0.516 km² (0.338 km² and 0.178 km² respectively). The maximum depth of the Big Lake is 24.5 meters, while the Small Lake reaches 49.1 meters. The combined volume of the Big and Small Lakes is 8,717,000 m³ (4,146,000 m³ / 4,551,000 m³). It is situated at an altitude of 1,422 meters. Black Lake is the main tourist attraction of the Durmitor region and is the largest and most famous of the 18 glacial lakes there.
Trnovačko Lake
Trnovačko Lake is located in the western part of Montenegro, in the municipality of Plužine. Its surface area varies between 0.12 and 0.40 km² depending on the season, with a volume (seasonal variation) of 0.0009 to 0.0013 km³, and a maximum depth of 9.2 meters. It is situated at an altitude of 1,517 meters. What makes it particularly special, besides its heart-shaped form, is that only true nature lovers reach it, as it is inaccessible by motor vehicles.
Vražje Lake
Vražje Lake is part of Durmitor National Park and is located in the municipality of Žabljak. It has a surface area of 0.118 km², a volume of 470,000 m³, and a maximum depth of 10.6 meters. The lake is situated at an altitude of 1,411 meters. The water in the lake is crystal clear. Vražje Lake belongs to the group of glacial lakes.
Sušičko Lake
Sušičko Lake is a seasonal lake that appears during a certain period of the year, mainly in early spring. It is located in a widened part of the Sušica River canyon at an altitude of 1,140 meters. When the water level is at its highest, the lake has a surface area of 0.08 km², a volume of 220,000 m³, and a maximum depth of 4 to 5 meters. The lake usually remains until June, sometimes for a shorter period. Sušičko Lake is one of the most beautiful features of the Sušica canyon.
Kapetanovo Lake
Kapetanovo Lake is a glacial lake located at an altitude of 1,678 meters. It has a surface area of 0.092 km², a volume of 1,194,440 m³, and a maximum depth of 37 meters. The lake is situated in the municipality of Kolašin. When viewed from above, the lake resembles spread butterfly wings. It is rich in fish.
Zminje Lake
Zminje Lake is located in the municipality of Žabljak, at an altitude of 1,495 meters. The lake covers an area of 0.017 km² and has a maximum depth of 7.7 meters. Around the lake, there is a belt of spruce trees that cast shadows on the water, making the surface appear patterned, resembling snake skin. The lake is accessible by motor vehicle. Additionally, the trail leading to the lake has few inclines and can be easily managed even by children.
