The General Hospital of Athens Alexandra was established in 1954, initially as a Maternity Hospital. As time passed it evolved and more departments were created and as a result today it has been established as an important medical, educational and research centre in the fields of Obstetrics, Gynecology, Pathology and Cardiology. It has expert staff in dealing with the treatment of all patients demonstrating responsibility and humane behavior.It is located at Vassilisis Sofias avenue in the center of Athens. It has a capacity of more than 350 beds and more than 1,000 staff members.
The outpatient office is visited by more than 4000 breast patients annually for post-op follow-up, breast cancer follow-up, breast screening program, high-risk population monitoring program and breast emergencies. The Unit’s main objects are a) education of medical students, b) training of resident gynaecologists during their specialty in breast diseases and surgery, c) conducting and participating in clinical studies.
