Descending into the depths of the earth through some of the narrowest coal seams in Europe, the Arigna mines offer an in-depth insight into over 300 years of coal production. An exhibition space explains geological systems and runs through a history of energy production, before moving on to the workings behind renewable energy solutions. The café enjoys striking views of the surrounding area, while a neighbouring gift shop stocks a range of gifts from emblazoned hoodies to mine-ready torches.

The expedition deep into the old seams last 45 minutes, and comes complete with a well-versed tour guide. A soundtrack and atmospheric lighting enhances the experience, and there will be demonstrations of mining techniques, safety measures, and the best methods for fighting rock monsters.
