Asnières-sur-Seine is a commune in the Hauts-de-Seinedepartment and Île-de-Franceregion of north-central France. It lies on the left bank of the river Seine, some eight kilometres from the centre of Paris in the north-western suburbs of the French capital.
Sights
The town includes many monuments listed in the general inventory of the cultural heritage of France.
- The Alcazar , rue de la Station : One of the first suburbs devoted to art cinema .
- The cemetery of the Dogs . The first of its kind, it was created in 1899 on the former Île des Ravageurs, next to the Clichy bridge . There are not only dogs, cats, birds but also horses, lions, monkeys, etc.
- The castle of Asnières : built from 1750 to 1752 for the Marquis d’Argenson , the castle of Asnières was built on the site of a former castle that belonged to the Countess of Parabère, mistress of the Regent.
- The Sainte-Geneviève church in Asnières-sur-Seine : a building consecrated in 1711 at a time when the city had only a few hundred inhabitants. The facade, the gallery and the aisles were rebuilt in 1929 .
- Lisch station , better known under the name of Carbonnets station : built in 1878 , this former landing stage of the Champ-de-Mars in Paris was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1878 .
- The monument to the dead in the Place Aristide-Briand , one of the eleven remaining dedicated to the memory of the dead of the war of 1870 . It is a work of the architect Cousteix and the sculptor Auguste Maillard.
- The new town hall dating from 1899. The interior decoration is by Paul Signac.
- The Church of Saint-Joseph-des-Quatre-Routes, near the crossroads of the same name .
- The Villa des Roses , built in 1882.
Asnières and painting
Many artists, mainly impressionists, painted Asnières and its banks: Emile Bernard, Claude Monet , Auguste Renoir , Georges Seurat , Paul Signac , Vincent van Gogh , etc.

These paintings were painted in 1887 and are known in English as en: Asnières (Van Gogh series) .
- The Château d’Asnières hosts exhibitions, for example the 1972/2009 retrospective exhibition by Dominique Mulhem.
