Balassagyarmat is a town in northern Hungary. It was the seat of the Nógrád comitatus.
Culture
The monument of Balassagyarmat is the traditional Palóc culture, which is why it was given the name “ Capital of Palócföld ” by Kálmán Mikszáth .

- Imre Madách Literature and Play Days (January)
The Imre Madách Literature and Drama Days will be held in the city on two days in January. Theater teams from different cities of the country come to the theater festival.
- Madách County Ceremony (January)
The county Madách ceremony is held in Balassagyarmat every year . The ceremony will be held at the Madách statue in the main square and at the Mikszáth Kálmán Cultural Center , at which time the Madách and Horváth Endre Awards will be presented to those who are most successful in the cultural life of the county.
- Civitas Fortissima City Festival ( January 29 )
Every January, the townspeople celebrate the anniversary of the 1919 Czech extermination . The Civitas Fortissima Association will hold a parade in his memory. On this day, a commemorative medal and the title of honorary citizen will be awarded for Balassagyarmat.
- Poetry Day ( April 11 )
The day of Hungarian poetry is also celebrated in Balassagyarmat . The ceremony will host various programs in the city.
- Finger in the grove! (May)
In May , a downtown May Day is held annually in the Palóc Grove , on the Palóc Stage . Several bands usually perform at the event.
- LigiPop (June to August)
Launched in 2017, the annual concert series features rock & roll , indie , surf rock and free jazz genres. The name refers to Palóc grove and Iggy Pop, which hosts the event .
- Student Junior (June)
Each year, on the last day of the school year, representatives elected by the city’s high schools symbolically take over control of the city for one day.
- Night of Museums (June)
The city also hosts the annual Museum Night . The Palóc Museum , the city prison and the Pannonia Motorcycle Museum have joined the program at least once .
- Downtown Beer Festival (July)
It is the largest music and gastronomic festival in Nógrád county , between 1997 and 2017 as the Beer Festival.
- Anna’s Day Palóc farewell (end of July)
Every year on Anna Day, the Anna Day Palóc farewell is held, which also provides an opportunity to promote Palóc culture.
- Old Town Square Street Ball (September)
Since 2013, a musical street ball and gastronomic fair has been held annually in Old Town Square, reviving that the city’s market used to be located in Old Town Square.
- Balassagyarmat Friends Association Meeting (September)
Every year since 1986, the Balassagyarmat Friends Association has been organizing a meeting in Budapest at the BM Danube Palace for people from Balassagyarmat and its surroundings.
- Advent Fair (December)
During the Advent period, the Advent Fair will also be held in Balassagyarmat on the promenade in front of the court and the town hall .
- JazzOn! (December)
Since 2015, the JazzOn has been held in Balassagyarmat in the last days of the year ! called jazz festival in the Mikszáth Kálmán Culture Center.
