The beguinage of Turnhout is one of the Flemish beguinages that was included on the World Heritage List in 1998 .
No exact founding date is known for the Turnhout beguinage, but it was probably founded in the 13th century .
The early Classicist gatehouse and the elongated tree-lined square characterize this beguinage. There is a well-preserved baroque church, infirmary and houses from the 16th and 17th centuries.
The last beguine, Grand Miss Anna De Boer, died in 2002.
There is a museum where you can learn more about the beguine culture.
