Broederenkerk library

Netherlands

In 2017, the library in the Broederenkerk was completely renovated and modernized. The renewed library has a reading café with coffee corner, many workplaces, thirty computers, extra strong WiFi and rooms where courses or workshops can be given.

History
The Broederenkerk is one of the few well-preserved monastery churches in the Netherlands. The Broederenkerk was built around 1306 – 1307 as a monastery church of the Dominican minor brothers or ‘preachers’. This monastic order of mendicants settled in Zutphen in 1288. After years of vacancy after 1970, the municipality of Zutphen bought the building in 1980, after which the public library found special accommodation there. Renovations took place in 2001 and 2017.
