MISSION

Within the scope of its specific capabilities and in the light of the public interest it is responsible for safeguarding, the Portuguese Army is responsible for:Participate in the military defense of the Republic;Ensure the generation, preparation and support of forces and means of the ground component of the Force System;Participate in international missions within the scope of International Organizations;Participate in missions outside the National Territory, in an autonomous or multinational framework;Perform technical-military cooperation actions;Cooperate, under the terms of the law, with the Security Forces and Services;Collaborate in civil protection missions;Collaborate on tasks related to meeting basic needs and improving the quality of life of populations;Carry out activities in the field of culture, namely the preservation and dissemination of its heritage.

A credible, modern, attractive army, with high readiness and competence;

An Army ready for the military defense of the Republic and an active contributor to cooperative security, the protection and well-being of the populations and the safeguarding of the national heritage.

Availability manifested in the permanent readiness to serve, based on the specificity of the military condition;
