Medieval Town of Srebrenik

The study of the medieval town of Srebrenik seeks, based on available historical evidence, to trace the development of one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most significant medieval sites. The research combines historical sources, material cultural remains, and oral tradition to reconstruct the town’s environment and surroundings during the Middle Ages.

Political events are particularly notable, often linked to numerous military campaigns that were sometimes decisive for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Wars led by Hungarian rulers, such as Louis I the Great and Sigismund of Luxembourg, had important consequences for the state and took place in the area of medieval Srebrenik.

There is limited information on the town’s economic, social, and cultural development during the medieval period. Available data mainly reflects broader regional trends rather than local particularities.

Future research is expected to open new avenues of understanding, especially as many medieval assumptions have yet to be fully confirmed.
