About Cobh Rebel Walking Tours

See and discover much, much more with a quality Walking Tour Guide! I’m Kieran McCarthy, and I’m here to guide you on your next memorable trip.

Cobh has three magnificent monuments plus the AUD anchor in the town, as well as the ongoing development of the 1916 Garden of Remembrance at Westview. These are all central to the Cobh Story and the Fight for Irish Freedom, indeed the Cobh Company of Volunteers were formed before the Cork City Volunteers in November 1913.

I have selected 16 historical sites that are near the town centre and will involve an approximate 80 minute leisurely walk.

Professional Walking Tour Guide

I’m Kieran McCarthy, Author and Historian and I’m here to guide you on your next memorable trip.

I have fully researched and written two books on the history of Cobh’s involvement in Rebel Ireland Historical Past, the first titled, “Cobh’s Contribution to the Fight for Irish Freedom”. Oilean Mor Publications, 1992 and “Republican Cobh and the East Cork Volunteers”, ‘Non Such Publications’, 2008.

I possess an avid interest in the 1913-1923 era of our history, and I’m an active member in the Cobh 1916 Centenary Committee participating in the work carried out in a week of commemoration and celebration in remembering 1916 and Cobh’s contribution. Briefly, this included a week of lectures, unveiling of three new monuments, a souvenir booklet and calendar.

My work with the Cobh 1916 Centenary Committee’s events has re-enforced my belief that there is an opportunity to tell the story of Cobh’s involvement through an authenticated and historically accurate walking tour in the town.
