COVILHÃ HEALTH CENTER

The Health Center is the basic unit of the NHS for the care and provision of health care to the population.
It works with family doctors / general practitioners, public health doctors (health delegates) and nurses, who provide essential, preventive or curative health care. In addition to the administrative staff, in some Health Centers other professionals also work – social service technicians, oral hygienists, environmental health technicians, nutritionists and psychologists.

The services to be provided by the Health Center are:

Consultations of general practice / family medicine

In the field of family medicine, the general practitioner, with the support of other professionals from the Health Center, provides care to the individual and the family, at different stages of life.
The Health Centers have consultations for certain situations – pregnancy, diabetes, child health, family planning, among others.

Public health service (health delegate)

The Health Center has a Public Health Service, where a medical inspection may be requested for legal or other purposes, such as, for example: special inspections for the driving license, certificates of robustness for the civil service, attribution of degrees of disability in cases of disability or chronic illness, etc.
The public health doctor, with the support of other professionals from the Health Center, municipalities and other entities, also promotes sanitary surveillance of the water supply, health, hygiene and safety of public service places and workplaces. .

Nursing care

The Health Center has a Nursing Service that can provide different types of care – advice on health issues, administration of vaccines and injectable drugs, treatment of wounds, home support for bedridden patients, etc.

Social service

Some Health Centers have Social Services, where a specialized technician can provide clarification and support regarding problems of a social nature.
This support can also be requested by the family doctor or other health professional, by family members, neighbors or by any member of the community.

Vaccines

At the Health Center, all vaccines included in the National Vaccination Program can be applied.
Note: Some vaccines, only used in special cases, such as the yellow fever or cholera vaccine, are only available in certain Health Centers. Inquire at your Health Center.

Auxiliary diagnostic tests

Some Health Centers are equipped to carry out clinical analyzes and radiographs. In centers that are not equipped, these tests can be done in laboratories and diagnostic centers with which the NHS has agreements.
