The Deventer Learning School is a primary school located in the center of the city of Deventer.
Although the school has a history of more than a century, it has only been called Deventer Learning School since October 1, 1983. For this it was called Rijkskerschool. A name that indicated that this was a training school for students of the Rijkskweekschool for Teachers and Teachers.
When the Primary Education Act came into effect, there was no longer any place for government schools that could not link a kindergarten to them. Our country only had 6 of these National Schools.
The parents of the students in Deventer wanted to keep the character of the school. That is why the parents took the initiative in 1979 to form the board of the school themselves.
To this end, a parent association was set up on November 28, 1980, called: Vereniging Deventer Leerschool.
All parents with children at the school are members of this.
Since 1983 the Deventer Learning School has been known as a Special Neutral Primary School on a general basis.
Our school has been located since 1985 at Brinkpoortstraat 7 (Brinkpoortplein) in a characteristic building dating from 1894, a protected cityscape.
The street is located in a quiet, partially newly built residential area in the center.
The adjacent “old gymnasium” has been converted into a beautiful accommodation for the playgroup and the after school care.
A book has been published for the 125th anniversary.
