Dunavarsány

The city ​​of Dunavarsány in Pest county , in the Szigetszentmiklós district , in the Budapest agglomeration . It has a permanent population of about 8,700.

Location 

Dunavarsány is located in the central part of Hungary , east of the Ráckeve-Danube , south of Budapest , about 12 km. The city is located on the floodplain soil of the Danube, mainly on sandy soils, its height is 100-115 meters above sea level, its highest point is Varsány Hill, 115 meters above sea level. The city is highly divided, consisting of several separate parts of the city.

It can be approached by road from the main road 51, it can be reached by train on the Budapest – Kunszentmiklós-Tass – Kelebia railway line ( Dunavarsány stop ).

Sights

Due to its natural values, the city has significant tourism. The picturesque resorts on the banks of the Danube and the artificially created mining lakes, as well as weekend tourism on the waterfront provide a pleasant opportunity for relaxation and entertainment for visitors to the settlement. Just a few hundred meters from the swimming bog along Domariba Island, you will find windswept sand hills. The island of Domariba, next to the Danube branch, is a traditional fishing place with nice holiday houses and fishing accommodation. Adjacent to its northern tip is the protected 10-hectare floating bog, which is not only a habitat for rare plants, but also features humpback grebes , several herons , and the song of the reed warbler and the reed cricket .

  • Happy Gizella and Szent Imre sculpture group:

On the occasion of the inauguration of Dunavarsány as a city on September 18, 2004 , the sculpture of sculptor István Horváth depicting Happy Gizella and St. Imre was unveiled. 

  • Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross:

In 1936, the neo – baroque style Catholic church was consecrated. This is the largest church in the city. Common name: Kisvarsányi church. 

  • The Church of St. Vendel:

In 1937, the Catholic church in Nagyvarsány was consecrated. Today it is the smallest church in the city. 

  • The Reformed Church:

In 1958, the Reformed Church was consecrated.

  • The Statue of Hope:

On the occasion of Hungary’s accession to the European Union on May 1, 2004, the statue of Hope, the work of sculptor Sebestyén Monori , was inaugurated in Nagyvarsány .

  • Heroes’ Square:

On October 23, 1993, the rebuilt Heroes’ Square was inaugurated. The sculpture is the work of Sándor Györfi, Munkácsy Prize-winning artist. 

  • Trianon Memorial Park:

On June 4, 2008 , a memorial to the anniversary of the Treaty of Trianon was unveiled.

  • KOMO-SKY 51 Base

Open military park in 2019 (helicopters, propeller and jet aircraft, military troop and cargo transport, reconnaissance and fire-fighting vehicles, anti-aircraft guns and adventure equipment). A special feature of the base is that visitors can not only view, but also sit in and try out most of the tools .
