Eurajoki

Eurajoki is a municipality of Finland located in the region of Satakunta in the province of Western Finland. The municipality has a population of 9,454  and covers an area of 1,504.96 square kilometres of which 298.39 km2 is water. The population density is 27.37 inhabitants per square kilometre.

Two of Finland’s four nuclear reactors are on the island of Olkiluoto in Eurajoki, and a third one is under construction. The two other operating reactors are at the Loviisa Nuclear Power Plant.

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Attractions and Services 

A well-known attraction in Eurajoki is the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant and visitor centers owned by Teollisuuden Voima . The power plant is currently undergoing construction work on a third power plant unit , which will be completed in 2020 at the earliest. The Olkiluoto Visitor Center has more than 20,000 visitors a year. 

Built in 1985, the Eurajoki water tower features a 40-meter Foucault pendulum . In addition to its educational purpose, it is a tourist destination where guided tours are organized. In addition, the water tower has an observation deck with a good view of the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant and Vuojoki manor , among others . Eurajoki also has a radio and television transmitter built in 1964, the Pinkjärvi camping area on the border of Eurajoki and Luvia. 

Eurajoki has seven schools, a high school , two kindergartens (a lighthouse in the center and Metsähti in Lapijoki), a nursing home, a library, a Lavila warehouse, an ice rink, the Eurajoki Christian College and three youth centers in Lapijoki, Irjante and the center of Eurajoki. In the center there is a Walkers youth evening café, an ice rink and a bowling alley. There are two grocery stores in the center of Eurajoki, S-market and K-Supermarket(Eurajoki gate) and a business center with several shops. There are two industrial areas, in Köykä and Kuusimäkelä. The industrial areas have expanded rapidly towards Lapijoki and Kuusimäkelä also towards Lapland. Eurajoki is known for the municipality’s many recreational areas. The municipality includes the Lahdenperä recreation area, the Pinkjärvi recreation area and the Verkkokari recreation area, among others. 

In June-July, the Kuivalahti Summer Theater operates in Eurajoki, where most of the actors are from Eurajoki. The Eurajoki market will be held in August. Every year, a manor lord and a manor lady are selected in the market. The Eurajoki market was held for 28 years right in the center of the municipality, after which the market was moved slightly to the side due to congestion.
