he Marché-aux-Poissons, where two Roman roads once crossed, is the historic center of the old town. It was here, in front of the gates of the Count’s castle, that the first markets were held.
The economic and social life of the first inhabitants of the city took place in the small alleys around the Marché-aux-Poissons, formerly called the Old Market or Marché-au-Fromage. The buildings bordering the square have a very special historical value.
Nowadays, the National Museum of History and Art is located at Marché-aux-Poissons.
