Folklore Museum Costas Frontzos

Greece

The Folklore Museum of Ioannina was created by the Epirotic Studies Society and its subsidiary Ionian and Adriatic Studies Foundation, with the aim of collecting, rescuing and exploiting objects of Epirus folk culture. The building is a 19th-century Ottoman mansion. The items come from Epirus donations and markets, while many were collected by the museum’s inspirational and creator, Kostas Frontzos, President of Epirotic Studies Society. In the museum’s halls there are exhibits of women’s and men’s traditional costumes from the region of Epirus, silver and goldsmiths’ work, embroidery and textiles, pottery and more. It is worth noting that on the ground floor of the new, fully renovated, ward of the museum there is a periodical exhibition room, which aims at the permanent renewal and the most lively presence of the Museum in the cultural activities of our city.
