ULSNA
On 1 March 2007 (Decree-Law no. 50-B / 2007, 28 February 2007), the Local Health Unit of the North Alentejo EPE was created, a legal entity that provides primary and differentiated health care, replacing the services provided up to that date by the Hospitals Doctor José Maria Grande of Portalegre, Santa Luzia de Elvas and by the Health Centers of the district of Portalegre.
The Local Health Unit of Norte Alentejano, EPE (ULSNA, EPE) is governed by the legal regime applicable to Public Business Entities, with the specificities provided for in Decree-Law no. 233/2005, of 29 December and in the respective statutes , as well as in the internal regulations and rules in force for the National Health Service that do not contravene the rules provided for in the aforementioned diploma.
Nature and Legal Regime
ULSNA, EPE is a legal person of public law of a business nature endowed with administrative, financial and patrimonial autonomy under the terms of Decree-Law no. 558/99 of 17 December.
It is governed by Decree-Law no. 50-B / 2007 of 28 February and by the other rules in force applicable to entities belonging to the SNS that are not incompatible with its legal nature.
Object and Area of influence
ULSNA, EPE has as its main objective the provision of primary and secondary health care, rehabilitation, continued integrated and palliative care to the population, namely the beneficiaries of the National Health Service and the beneficiaries of the health subsystems, or with external entities that with it contract health care provision and all citizens in general, as well as articulate with public health activities and the means necessary to exercise the powers of the health authority in the geographic area covered by it.
ULSNA, EPE also aims to develop research, training and teaching activities, and its participation in the training of health professionals depends on their training capacity, and may be the subject of a program contract in which the respective forms of financing are defined.
The area of influence corresponds to the district of Portalegre covering all of its municipalities: Alter do Chão, Arronches, Avis, Campo Maior, Castelo de Vide, Crato, Elvas, Fronteira, Gavião, Marvão, Monforte, Nisa, Ponte de Sôr, Portalegre and Sousel.
ULSNA, EPE is constituted by the Hospitals Dr. José Maria Grande of Portalegre and Santa Luzia de Elvas as well as by the Grouping of Health Centers of São Mamede, whose composition is foreseen in article 33 of the Regulation.
