Jászapáti is a town in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county, in the Northern Great Plain region of central Hungary.

Sights

  • Church of the Assumption: the two-towered Roman Catholic church is a medieval monument that has been remodeled several times. It gained its present form in 1833. The secco of the church dome was made by the painter Pál Vágó , and the side altars were made by Than Mór . The building is surrounded by fortified , crenellated fence with stretches.
  • Library : located opposite the church. It used to function as a town hall. It was built in the 19th century in a classicist style.
  • Pál Vágó Local History Museum : A museum established in the birthplace of Pál Vágó, which houses several smaller exhibitions, including the works of ceramic designer Béla Mihály – also born in Jászapáti.
  • Farm Museum : a museum hosting an exhibition on the agricultural way of life.

Entertainment and leisure

  • Tölgyes Thermal Bath and Camping : built in the early 1960s. In the summer season it awaits those wishing to relax with 6 pools (swimming, spa, children’s, adventure, training and thermal pools), in the winter season with 2 indoor pools. The thermal water bursts to the surface from a well of sodium bicarbonate, 45 ° C and 805 m deep. In 2002, thermal water was awarded the medicinal water certification; it is primarily visited by patients with musculoskeletal disorders.
  • House of Culture : designed by Imre Makovecz ; it hosts theater and cinema performances as well as the city’s community events.
  • Fishing lakes

Events 

  • Harvest Festival : It has been held every summer since 1997. In addition to presenting the preparations for the harvest and the manual harvest, folk dancers from Jászapáti will also perform at the event.
  • Traditional camp : a one-week “camp” for children is organized every year, hosted by the city library. In the camp, children learn to clay, carve, sculpt, paint, bead, and so on.

History 

It looks back on a 600-year history. In 1746 he first received the rank of a city, which he lost in 1876 and then regained in 1989 . The route of the Csörsz ditch connecting the Danube with the Tisza , built by the Sarmatians between 324 and 337 , passes north of the settlement .

Families of Jász origin: Aba, Ágó, Bató, Gócsa, Kotán, Szabari (saburiada Ossetian ul means a quiet, peaceful person, comes from an ancestor named Saburán), Tajthy In the 17th century, the Makó family of noble wheelers moved to the settlement.

The origins of this historical family can be traced back to the Hungarian Csanád clan – descendants of Doboka’s son Csanád leader.

Their family estate in Moson was Nezsider en (Neusiedl am See), then one of their branches acquired property in Gömör county ( Kerekgede ), later they settled in Jászapáti. Noble gestures of Lőrinc Makó and his wife’s noble gesture Dorottya Balajthy founded a family. Descendants:

Katalin Makó (1697) is married to János Szabari. Gergely Makó (1698) is the village chief judge and councilor, the captain of the Nádor hussar cause, his wife Judit Sike. Pál Makó (1723) is one of the most outstanding scientists, mathematicians, philosophers and researchers of his time.
