Kalmar County Museum

Kalmar County museum is found in a big building that once contained Kalmar steam mill. The museum offers exhibitions throughout the year. The biggest exhibition presents the warship “Kronan” that sank at the south coast of Öland 1676. In addition, the museum presents temporary exhibitions on current social and cultural topics.

Experience the thrilling account of Sweden’s most impressive ship during its period as a great power, a ship that exploded and sank in 1676 and was rediscovered in 1980. More than 30,000 artefacts have been salvaged from the wreck site outside Öland, including Sweden’s largest gold coin treasure. You can see some thousands of the coins here.
