Kisbér

Kisbér is a town in northern Hungary, in Komárom-Esztergom county. It is the administrative centre of Kisbér District. The town was first mentioned in 1277.

Sights

Kisbér from the 1800s to the II. It was a stronghold of Hungarian horse breeding until World War II. The famous Kisbér half-blood was bred in the stud here . 1874 . On March 17 , 1960 , the “unbeatable wonder mare,” Treasure and 1960 , was born in the stud . and on February 14 , Imperial , the best bred Hungarian racehorse of the 20th century. Kisbér was born herealso called an English Thoroughbred racehorse in 1873. He won 3 of the most prestigious races of the time. Captain József Platty won a bromine medal in the colors of LEb at the 1936 Olympics with a tall half-bred horse named Sellő This is our best Olympic show jumping result so far. The bronze medal meant 7 points, making Hungary 3rd in the overall medal table.

The stud estate, which preserves the memory of horse breeding, consists of several buildings: Batthyány Castle, a hospital, a royal riding school and the associated stable system and the officer’s casino.

It was built in 1770 in Baroque style and then in 1840 in Classicist style . There was a hospital in the building for a long time. It is currently empty. 

It operated primarily as a military hospital, but also treated civilian patients. It was used as a primary school after the war, and is now a hospital again after renovations and major additions and conversions.

  • Royal riding school

The Hungarian Royal Riding School was built in 1858 . It is still the largest indoor riding school in Central Europe .

  • Officer’s casino

The post-war college, now the mayor’s office , is housed in the officer casino building .

In front of the royal riding school stands the statue of Béla Wenckheim , the work of János Fadrusz . He originally stood on Hell Hill. 

The Roman Catholic church of the Baroque style monument of the settlement was built in 1783 . Its beautiful late Baroque main altar and richly decorated pulpit in braid style were made in 1788 . The church was rebuilt in 1825 by Count Antal József Batthyány in the Classicist style and expanded with two truncated towers. The church was decorated with frescoes in 1938 according to the plans of Gábor Döbrentei, its glass windows were painted in 1982 by András Mohay. The roof structure of the church was completely renovated in 2012.
