Östhammar’s cultural school is a free, municipal, artistic and educational leisure activity.

We turn to children and young people in Östhammar municipality from year 1 to high school and we offer music in preschool to all preschools. If there is space, people over the age of 19 can be admitted to the cultural school’s courses. Everyone over the age of 19 pays a semester fee of SEK 900.

The cultural school’s activities are based on children and young people’s own driving force, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Children and Education Committee’s mission.

The cultural school should …

• Ensure that residents in Östhammar municipality have the same opportunities to take part in the cultural school’s activities.
• In their work and actions, consider a conscious gender equality perspective and a diversity that provides access to a wide range for all.
• Operate in the towns of Östhammar, Öregrund, Gimo, Alunda and Österbybruk.
• Offer both group activities and individual teaching in the areas of music, dance and theater, as well as other cultural areas that children and young people are interested in.
• Conduct their activities partly during children and young people’s school time, and partly during their free time.
• In the meeting with children and young people help them to discover their own creativity and creative ability so that they can understand themselves, each other and the world around them a little better.
• Be a complement to the school with children and young people at the center.
• In its work, collaborate with children’s culture actors, associations and municipal units both in and outside Östhammar municipality to reach more children and young people and to develop the range and the pedagogical and artistic work.
• In addition to the above assignments, Östhammar’s cultural school can undertake other assignments that are outside that basic assignment. If this happens, there must be a cost coverage that means that the allocated budget from BUN is not used for this.
