Benedictine Abbey Church
The history of the village is inextricably intertwined with the history of the monumental church here. The first documented mention of the church dates from 1199 , when the estate was returned by King Imre to the brothers of Saul, Archbishop of Kalocsa, Poth and Chepán. Ownership of the existing monastery is confirmed by a charter dated 1208
The church The abbey church, built between 1202 and 1208 as a donation of the Hédervári family , was perhaps the first to bring together the development of the Romanian style in Hungary in the typical way of the Benedictines .
The abbey monastery was destroyed during the Turkish occupation.
