Lohja

Finland

Lohja is a city and municipality in the Uusimaa region of Finland. The city has a population of 47,518, and it covers an area of 1,109.73 square kilometres of which 91.78 km2, or 8.3 percent, is water. The municipality is bilingual, with the majority being Finnish and minority Swedish speakers. 

Lohja has the fourth-most summer houses of any municipality in Finland, with 8,468 located within the city. Lohja is located near Greater Helsinki, and it benefits from a good road network.

Culture

Lohja is famed for its cultural events. More than a hundred different events are arranged in the city each year by its residents and organizations.

  • Lohja Lake Days
  • The Lohja Tenor Days have been held since 1997, every two years after 2010. During the event, well-known industry leaders both in Finland and internationally will be heard in Lohja.
  • Tanhukhov market
  • Lohja Summer Association organizes evenings during the summer. It operates under the auspices of the City of Lohja Education and is governed by a board of directors, which elects representatives of various cultural fields from Lohja each year. 
  • In the past, the Christmas Market has been organized since 1994. The events offer the warmth of a campfire, Christmas delicacies and a demonstration of past ways of working and the preparation of festive dishes.

Food culture 

Lohja pitäjäruoiksi was named in the 1980s apple oatmeal and omenalimppu and ruiskorppujauhosta and butter tehdylle built on the whipped-hillojälkiruoka „on the sand under the snow.“

Sights

One unique experience is the Tytyri limestone mine, which has a museum located 100 metres under ground. This attraction and exhibitions can be reached using either an old mine wagon or a modern lift. Other places of note are:

Lohjan Energiahuolto Oy Loher was founded in 1982. its task is to acquire, produce and distribute thermal energy. The city of Lohja owns the company. 

Education 

There are plenty of primary and secondary schools in Lohja. There are a total of 23 primary schools and 5 upper secondary schools. Two of the primary schools and one of the upper secondary schools are in Swedish. There are two high schools; The Finnish-language high school, ie the Lohja Joint High School , which is the largest in Finland, is located in the city center, and the Swedish-language Virkby Gymnasium in Virkkala, which operates in connection with Källhagen High School. Since the beginning of 2013, with the municipal association, Lohja has also had a third high school, Nummi-Pusula High School.

Vocational training is provided by the Länsi-Uusimaa Training Center , which can study a total of 17 different professions in two units in Lohja. Vocational training in the field of sports is provided by Kisakallio Sports College .

Polytechnic education is provided by the Lohja unit of Laurea University of Applied Sciences , which has nursing and bachelor’s degrees .

University education is organized by Hiide College in Lohja , which offers open university education as a multimodal education.

Other education is offered by, among others, Länsi-Uusimaa Music College , Kisakallio Sports College, Hiide College, Lohja School of Fine Arts, Dance School Un Dos Tres and Dance Studio Funka.

Lohja has good opportunities to practice several sports. In addition to the sports field, the Harju Sports Center includes an ice rink , an indoor swimming pool , a bowling alley and a skateboard park inaugurated in spring 2008. [72] The Tennar sports hall, on the other hand, has a ball hall, a wrestling and strength hall, and indoor and outdoor tennis courts . [73] Fixed crosses, which are available in Lohja in six different terrains, offer opportunities for outdoor sports. [

At Kisakallio Sports College, it is possible to practice many sports both indoors and outdoors. In addition to the ice rink, ball hall and curling rink, the college has good facilities for scaffolding. Excursions and rowing are also part of the range of sports, as the college is located on the shores of Maikkalanselä. Kisakallio, located in the middle of nature, also offers good routes for skiing and cross-country skiing.

Medical

Lohja Hospital belongs to the hospital districts of Helsinki and Uusimaa. Paloniemi Hospital specializes in psychiatry.
