Lőrinci

Hungary

Lőrinci is a town in Heves County, Hungary, situated on the Zagyva River just north of Hatvan, in the northwest corner of the Great Hungarian Plain. The northern district of the town is called Selyp. György Kepes was born here in 1906. A large power plant overshadows the south of the town.

Culture, education, sports 

There are three kindergartens and a two-building primary school in Lőrinci, where there is also a talent care and correction training. The city also houses the March 15 Vocational School, which provides vocational and vocational secondary education in several professions. There is also an elementary music school in the settlement. One of the major venues of the city’s cultural life is the library, which, in addition to reading, also offers cultural events. Furthermore, the Selypi Culture House still functions similarly. The Strauss Salon Orchestra also operates in Lőrinc.

The most significant player in Lőrinci’s sports life is the Kinizsi Sports Club, which operates mainly in the field of football and tennis.

Economy 

Today, agriculture has almost completely disappeared from the life of the settlement.

The most significant plants of the city were the Power Plant, the Mátravidék Sugar Factories, the Zsófia Mill and the Eternit. Of these, sugar production ceased in 1999, and the site was purchased by Heves Acél Kft. Eternit withdrew its production to its original factory in Nyergesújfalu .

More and more service and commercial facilities are being developed in the city.
