The museum collects and presents contemporary works of art, and has a significant collection of Hungarian and international fine arts.  It has an area of ​​3300 m² and occupies 4 levels on the west side of the palace facing the Danube . The museum has an archive, a specialist library and a museum pedagogical workshop. The collection is based on gifts and long-term deposits from the Ludwig couple in Aachen .
