Municipality of Busovača

In the central part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the heart of the Central Bosnia Canton, covering an area of 157.5 square kilometers, lies the territory of the Municipality of Busovača

The very fact that it represents a hub of highly important and busy transport routes, along with its geostrategic position, makes Busovača an exceptionally attractive destination. Under its present name, Busovača was first mentioned in written records on August 16, 1371, when a certain Gojko Čepić from Busovača sold 30 miliaria of iron to Johann Rombald Bon. This date is inscribed on the coat of arms of the town of Busovača and is celebrated as the Day of the Municipality.

According to the 2013 census, Busovača has a population of 17,910. It holds an important place in history, not only through every period Bosnia and Herzegovina has passed but also in the context of many other countries. This can be explained by the fact that our relatively small town is distinguished by a favorable geographical location, pleasant climate, natural beauty, and above all, wonderful people, widely known for their hospitality and friendly, welcoming attitude toward all who come to Busovača.

The period after the Second World War marked the beginning of intense industrial development in Busovača. At that time, key drivers of economic growth emerged, such as the Refractory Materials Factory “Vatrostalna,” the Brick Products Factory “Nigma,” the MDF Board Factory “Mediapan,” the Trade and Service Company “Tisovac,” the Hospitality Services Company “Ugostiteljstvo,” and many other business entities. Along with the employment of the working-age population in enterprises of neighboring municipalities, especially in Zenica, the employment rate reached a satisfactory level. Today, Busovača is home to new businesses whose products are present even beyond the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Created from the business ideas of local entrepreneurs, companies such as “Tamex,” “Grand,” “Paleta Plus,” “EZ,” “Orman,” “Eko-commerce,” and many others form the backbone of the economic development of the Municipality of Busovača.

In recent times, Busovača has become an attractive tourist destination for visitors from different parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Whether you are a hiker, cyclist, adventurer, fisherman, or a winter sports enthusiast, Busovača offers an increasing range of activities for both children and adults. Among the highlights are Pridolci and Busovačka Mountain, the fishing area on the Lašva River in Kaonik, Hotel Tisa with its futsal and tennis courts, the futsal dome in Kaćuni, a rich selection of restaurants and cafes, as well as various cultural and sports events.

The aspiration of the legislative and executive authorities is for Busovača to soon become—and always remain—a desirable destination, a place where both young and older generations will gladly stay, and not a place people leave.

Tourism

Recently, Busovača has been emerging as an attractive tourist destination for visitors from across Bosnia and Herzegovina. Whether you are a hiker, cyclist, adventurer, angler, or a fan of winter sports, Busovača increasingly offers activities for both children and adults. Key attractions include Pridolci and Busovačka Mountain, the Lašva River area in Kaonik, Hotel Tisa with futsal and tennis courts, a futsal dome in Kaćuni, diverse dining options, and a variety of cultural and sporting events.

Busovača has the potential to become a highly appealing destination for those seeking active and healthy leisure, thanks to its unspoiled natural beauty, geostrategic location, traditional crafts, and charming rural offerings. Historically, Tisovac, near the town center, was a popular getaway for nature lovers and today remains a favorite for those seeking new recreational opportunities.

Winter and summer tourism are currently expanding, especially around Pridolci and Busovačka Mountain. SRC Pridolci, at 1,200 meters above sea level, features a 1,200-meter ski slope, ski lifts, and a small beginner slope. Busovačka Mountain, overlooking the town, offers an 800-meter ski slope starting at 1,500 meters altitude. The municipality plans to further develop these areas into major sports and recreational centers, which already attract thousands of local and regional visitors.

Thanks to Busovača’s historic position along major routes, the town has a long tradition of excellent restaurants and local cuisine. Popular establishments such as “Sarajlić,” “Manes,” “Kod Fehre,” “Oaza,” and “Sunce” attract tourists, travelers, and locals alike. In the town itself, restaurants like “Party,” “Venecija,” and “Oskar” maintain high culinary standards, and facilities include one of Central Bosnia’s finest wedding halls—Svadbeni Salon Party—and Hotel Tisa with supporting infrastructure.

Visitors can also explore the region’s historical heritage, including medieval stećak tombstones in Donje Krčevine, Ravan near Hozanovići, Dobraljevo, and Ravan, reflecting the area’s rich cultural history.

Religious Tourism

A major event is the celebration of Saint Anthony’s Day on June 13, which attracts thousands of locals, regional visitors, and even international guests. Traditionally, the celebration brings together pilgrims, tourists, and entertainers, including fire-eaters, magicians, and musicians from across the region.

The Tekija in Kaćuni is the largest building of its kind in the Balkans, with three floors housing separate facilities: the Hadžimejlić private clinic with modern equipment, the Mesudija center focused on addiction treatment and mental health, and the tekija at the top for prayer. The Tekija Day is celebrated on March 21, the first day of spring, drawing thousands of worshippers.
