Doboj Istok Municipality – A Land of History, Culture, and Economic Potential
The area of Doboj Istok has been inhabited since the Middle Ages, as evidenced by numerous archaeological remnants, stećci (medieval tombstones), and nišani that have survived to this day.
Historical records mention the settlements of Brijesnica and Klokotnica as early as 1528, while Lukavica Rijeka and Stanić Rijeka appear in documents from 1533. The region bears significant historical legacy from the Ottoman period. Almost every settlement in the municipality hosts Ottoman-era cemeteries, public fountains, and other sacred sites.
Economy
Before the war, the local economy was primarily based on agriculture. Today, Doboj Istok has emerged as an attractive entrepreneurial hub, oriented towards small and medium-sized enterprises. The municipality is regionally recognized for:

Approximately 200 economic entities, both legal and individual, operate in Doboj Istok. Its fertile land, favorable climate, developed infrastructure, and strategic location provide excellent opportunities for further economic growth.
Doboj Istok is rich in natural resources, including arable land (43.07% of municipal area), forests (27.43%), abundant water sources, and mineral resources. Despite its economic potential, the municipality faces high unemployment. As of June 30, 2005, 2,866 residents were registered as unemployed, with a significant portion being young people who have never held a job.
Privatization
Doboj Istok does not have complex enterprises requiring privatization in the near future. Previously privatized companies include:

- 49% of Komunalno preduzeće Čisto

Remaining non-privatized companies include Logistics Center, Press Center, and Veterinary Station Doboj Istok.
Local Communities
Doboj Istok comprises five local communities: Stanić Rijeka, Lukavica Rijeka, Klokotnica, Brijesnica Velika, and Brijesnica Mala. Two communities have been included in the MDP project since October 2002, while three host municipal offices in Klokotnica, Brijesnica Velika, and Lukavica Rijeka.
Relations between local communities and municipal authorities are positive, with officials committed to holding public meetings upon request. A modern information system, developed with MDP support, ensures strong connections between local offices and the main municipal administration.
Transport and Tourism
Thanks to its strategic location, Doboj Istok is well-connected to surrounding areas, ensuring smooth traffic flow for residents.
Tourism is gradually developing, with a municipal tourist agency promoting the region. While large tourist facilities are not yet present, the municipality offers significant natural potential. A unique attraction is the “Bosnian Park” in Klokotnica, dedicated to preserving traditional crafts and Bosnian heritage.

Education and Public Institutions
The educational development of Doboj Istok began as early as 1932 with the construction of a four-grade primary school in Klokotnica, followed by a school in Brijesnica Mala in 1938.
Currently, the municipality has:
- Primary School “Klokotnica” in Klokotnica, with two branch schools: one in Stanić Rijeka and one in Habibovići, Klokotnica;
- Primary School “Brijesnica” in Brijesnica Velika, with a branch school in Brijesnica Mala;
- Mixed Secondary School “Doboj Istok” in Brijesnica Velika;
- Kindergarten “Doboj Istok” in Brijesnica Mala.

- UG “Sehara” and Bosniak Cultural Community “Preporod” encourage musical, artistic, and cultural activities.
These organizations contribute to the preservation and promotion of Bosniak culture both locally and globally.
Sports
Organized sports activities began in 1948 with Football Club “Mladost” in Brijesnica. Today, the Doboj Istok Sports Association unites five active clubs:
