Municipality of Glamoč

History of Glamoč

The Glamoč field has been inhabited for centuries, with evidence of life dating back to the Bronze Age. During the Illyrian period, the area was home to one of the main Delmata communities, as indicated by numerous hillforts. Over time, Glamoč was a parish, a principality, and today it is an independent municipality. The most significant protected heritage site is Tabija Fortress, declared a national monument in 2005. In addition to Tabija, the municipality contains 32 hillforts, many medieval cemeteries, and church ruins, though most remain unexplored. Archaeological excavations at Gradac near Halapić in 2007 uncovered Bronze Age artifacts.

Glamoč, whose name traces back to the Illyrian Delmata tribe, is a historic town rich in heritage. Highlights include the 15th-century Old Town fortress and the Bašić Mausoleum (1798), the tallest Muslim tomb in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
