The Municipality of Hrašćina is located in the northeastern part of Krapina-Zagorje County, on the border with Varaždin and Zagreb Counties.
The Municipality of Hrašćina includes the following settlements: Domovec, Donji Kraljevec, Gornji Kraljevec, Gornjaki, Hrašćina, Husinec, Jarek Habekov, Maretić, Trgovišće, and Vrbovo.
According to available data, Hrašćina existed as a municipality even before 1900, continuing until 1945, when municipalities were abolished and local committees were established. In 1951, the Municipality of Hrašćina was reestablished and functioned as such until 1956, when the Municipality of Konjščina was formed, later replaced by Zlatar Bistrica and then Zlatar. The municipality began functioning again in 1993.
Hrašćina borders the municipalities of Konjščina and Budinščina in Krapina-Zagorje County, the municipalities of Hum Breznički and Breznica, and the town of Novi Marof in Varaždin County, as well as the Municipality of Bedenica in Zagreb County.
Hrašćina is historically significant in astronomy as the site of the first documented meteorite fall, which occurred on May 26, 1751. Since 2012, May 26 has been celebrated as the Day of the Municipality of Hrašćina.
The municipality is home to several valuable sacral buildings. One of the oldest is a Roman tombstone built into the statue of St. Anne in Hrašćina. In the village of Domovec, there is a pillar dedicated to St. Mark, erected in 1647 in gratitude for the departure of the Turks from the Hrašćina region. The Chapel of St. Benedict in Gornji Kraljevec is protected as a cultural monument. The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows in Trgovišće was built in 1735. The Parish Church of St. Nicholas in Hrašćina was built in the 17th century. In Donji Kraljevec, there is a newly built Chapel of St. Joseph the Worker.
Above Trgovišće, on Pipinić’s Path, stands a 14-meter-high lookout tower called the „Pyramid,“ offering a unique view of Hrašćina, a large part of the Hrvatsko Zagorje region, and, on clear days, even the peaks of the Alps. The educational ecological trail through Hrašćina, named Pipinić’s Path, was named after its founder, Branko Pipinić — a local teacher and the founder of the Hrašćina Mountaineering Association.
