Östergötland’s museum is located at Raoul Wallenberg’s place, Gråbrödragatan / Vasavägen in Linköping .

” The purpose of the Östergötlands Länsmuseum Foundation shall be to conduct and promote cultural heritage conservation and other museum activities as well as other activities compatible therewith, manage its properties and develop the museum activities ” .
In addition to the exhibition and exhibition section, the county museum also deals with building maintenance , archeology , conservation and has its own book publisher .
History
Anton Ridderstad is the founder of the museum . His donations of both works of art and money made it possible to found a museum. Other well-known names who have been associated with the museum are Bengt Cnattingius , Sven E. Noreen and Gunnar Lindqvist .
The building
The museum’s current premises at Vasavägen in central Linköping is a yellow brick building in a functionalist style , which was inaugurated in 1939 . The museum had already existed for 75 years. The architects Nils Ahrbom and Helge Zimdal were responsible for the design of the building . Above the entrance there is a facade frieze on the theme of work and life affirmation by the sculptor Ivar Johnsson . The building was declared a building monument in 1985 .
Outside the museum building, some works of art are on display. These include the runestone Fv1950; 341 , which was found near Nykvarn in 1950, which is located downstream of Stångån, and the marble group Hagar and Ismael in the desert (1884) by Alfred Nyström .
