Vision on nature management

The Flevo landscape wants to preserve, protect and develop the Flevoland nature as well as possible, while at the same time ensuring that the residents and visitors of this province can enjoy it as much as possible.

Conservation

Ecology has priority in maintaining and developing nature, but as a site management organization, Het Flevo-landscape also pays attention to the preservation of the landscape and cultural history and, where possible, to recreational opportunities. The function of nature can therefore only be broadened if it benefits nature on balance. The Flevo landscape also strives to expand its sites, because this contributes to the robustness of nature. Moreover, the sites can then be managed more efficiently.

Nature experience

To ensure that you can enjoy nature, Het Flevo landscape makes its grounds as hospitable as possible. Only where nature is too vulnerable, a site is only accessible during guided excursions. By letting residents and visitors enjoy nature, they feel more connected with the Flevoland landscape and with us.

The 2020-2023 policy plan of the Het Flevo-landscape foundation bears the title ‘Resilient nature nearby’. As the private nature conservation organization of Flevoland, we want to continue to play a pioneering role and, together with the people of Flevoland, ensure a resilient and strong nature. Nature that you can enjoy, but also nature that plays a crucial role in a healthy living environment, sufficient water storage, good air quality and a great diversity of species.

We sometimes say: ‘nature is free, but its management is not’. That is why we will increasingly appeal to society. As Flevolanders, we not only live among all those beautiful nature reserves of the Flevo landscape and enjoy them, we as citizens are ultimately also the ones who have to stand up for nature and nature conservation. Without deep-rooted support, widely supported nature management is not possible. We want to increase support by getting people to love nature and involve them in our work.
