Places and monuments

  • The Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption (or Avron) church was built in 1932 by the architect Henri Conus. It became a parish on December 14 1958. It has a modern architecture in reinforced concrete and brick quite close to the Notre-Dame du Raincy church . Stained glass windows from Louis Barillet’s studio represent different saints.
  • The Plateau d’Avron water tower , built between 1932 and 1938, dominates the plateau and is therefore visible from many points in eastern Paris. It is one of the tallest buildings in the town.
  • In the city center, the Saint-Henri church stands in the middle of avenue Victor Hugo.
  • The city retains a granite commemorative monument built in 1886 in commemoration of the heavy fighting from 28 to 31 Dec 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 . The French army then defended the Avron plateau against the Prussians.
  • In 1993 , an 800 square meter vineyard was replanted.
  • The Lamarque way , located on the right-of-way of old railroads traced at the time of the exploitation of gypsum between the quarries of the Plateau d’Avron and the Marne , is a “green flow” entirely pedestrian and surprisingly prohibited to bicycles , which allows, from the river, to join the urban park of 31.4  hectares, inaugurated in 1999 on the sides of the plateau. The latter includes biotope zones classified by prefectural decree, which can be visited by appointment.
  • The town of Neuilly-Plaisance is also famous for hosting the first Emmaüs community , created by Abbé Pierre , then a member of Parliament , in 1949 . The Emmaus movement developed rapidly, in France and internationally , in particular following Father Pierre ‘s appeal in the winter of 1954 , which made it known.
  • The city of Renouillères (also known as the city of Cahouettes), built in the 1960s, has 807 housing units. This is the only large HLM complex in the municipality .
  • The city created, on the site of old gypsum quarries filled with inert materials in the early 1990s, a 31.4  hectare park which opened its doors onDecember 31, 1999. The objective of this first phase of work was to respect the natural assets of the site. It involved the creation of pedestrian and cycle paths (separated by wooden  rails), a 2 hectare meadow , street furniture (benches, tables, bins, “kioscans”), signage (plans, panels, totems ), bicycle garages (domicycles), picnic areas, play areas for children, free areas for dogs, a pétanque area, sanitary facilities.
  • The town has a cemetery, the Neuilly-Plaisance communal cemetery .
