O.129 Amandine (ship)

Belgium

The O.129 Amandine is a large medium-range trawler (class of fishing vessels). The ship is now moored in Ostend as an interactive museum ship in a dry dock on the renewed Visserskaai. On board you can learn everything about Icelandic navigation and sea fishing . The Amandine was the last Ostend Iceland vessel.

The Amandine turned out to be very successful. In the summer she fished the lands around South Iceland and in the winter the Channel and the North Sea . After the Icelandic Cod Wars , the vessel had to choose between fishing in its home waters or on its traditional fishing grounds around Iceland. From 1974 the Amandine became a real Icelander. Catches consisted mainly of cod , haddock , blue ling , coalfish , red mullet , red sea bream , plaice and Scottish plaice.
