Oliveira de Azeméis Music Academy’

The Oliveira de Azeméis Music Academy is a specialized teaching school founded in 1984, by the City Council, through the Department of Culture.

The Academy started its school activity in 1984 giving the musical initiation course and also some instruments. There were seventy students of both sexes taught by two teachers and by the pedagogical director, its technical founder Armindo Ferreira, who retired in March 2001 because he reached the age limit established by law, taking on the position of pedagogical director. teacher Madalena Pinho until August 2014. Currently the school is pedagogically managed by a collegiate board formed by teachers Manuel Silva, Miguel Pais and Sérgio Tavares.

In October 1986, the Ministry of Education issued by the General Directorate of Basic and Secondary Education was granted authorization to operate in conjunction with the attribution of the pedagogical parallelism of basic and secondary courses. Currently the school has pedagogical autonomy.

The Academy of Music teaches the following disciplines in strict accordance with the directives of the Ministry: Acoustics and Organology, Analysis and Composition Techniques, Clarinet, Ensemble / Orchestra Classes, Choir, Transverse Flute, Musical Formation, Classical Guitar, History of Culture and das Artes, Musical Initiation, Pre Musical Initiation, Oboe, Percussion, Piano, Key instrument, Saxophone, Vocal / Repertoire Technique, Trombone, French Horn, Trumpet, Violin, Viola D’Arco, Violoncello and Tuba.

Currently, the Music Academy is attended by about 280 students distributed by the initiation, basic and secondary courses and composed by a faculty of 25 elements.

Official education consists of initiation, basic and secondary courses in a supplementary and articulated regime.

The initiation is aimed at children who attend the 1st cycle of basic education. The basic course in supplementary / articulated regime is aimed at students who attend the 2nd and 3rd cycle.
The secondary course is aimed at students from the 10th to the 12th year of schooling.

Since 2017, the Music Academy has joined a new project: Rockschool.

The Rockschool method is recognized worldwide, being a preferred curricular option in music schools.

Each degree earned gives more technical skills to the student in order to become a better guitarist, drummer, vocalist, or bass player, reaching the levels of a professional!
