Parish of Paços de Ferreira

The oldest documentary reference to the Church of Santa Eulália de Paços de Ferreira dates back to the second half of the tenth century (959). It is found in the Book of Mumadona, Countess of Guimarães.

On the one hand, the region where it is located, of prehistoric settlement (Citânia de Sanfins), was intensely Romanized, as attested by the numerous archaeological finds (the castros and castles), but above all the toponymy (there are, in many parishes, the places of Vila, Vilar, Vila Nova, Fundo de Vila, Cimo de Vila, Agro e Agras, Quintãs, Paço).

In the parish of Paços de Ferreira, Roman remains were found, in the place of Quintãs, next to the road that goes up to Models. There, the foundations of a wide rectangular construction and abundant remains of tégulas were discovered. In addition, when the Casa do Rego was built, several grave amphoras were found, in good condition, attributed to the 4th century. And even today, some neighboring fields are called Castles and Cemeteries.
