Provinciale Erfgoedsite Scheepswerven Baasrode

Belgium

The former Baasrode shipyards in Dendermonde are more than 3 ha of industrial heritage. The Province is expanding the site into a lively heritage site about shipbuilding and inland shipping at the end of the 19th-20th century with:

  • 19th century workshops with the original machines
  • Two dry docks with two historic ships:
    • The non-motorized spire ‘Lauranda’ that was built on this shipyard in 1928.
    • The motorized striker ‘ALYV’ that was built on this yard in 1938.
  • The collection of  Scheepvaartmuseum Baasrode vzw  with a specialized library and an extensive archive in the former master house and new building
  • The internationally renowned School for Ship Model Building non-profit organization  that builds correct scale models of the ships that once started there
