Pudasjärvi is a town and a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Oulu and is part of the Northern Ostrobothnia region. The city has a population of 7,782 and covers an area of 5,867.23 square kilometres of which 228.67 km2 is water. Pudasjärvi is by area the second largest town in Finland (as of 2006, Rovaniemi is the largest) and one of the largest in the world.
Pudasjärvi is famed for its nature, and is the home of the southernmost fell area in Finland, Syöte. The oldest dated rock formations within the European Union can be found in Siuruankylä, Pudasjärvi. The trondhjemite gneiss is aged 3,500 million years.
Two Finnish melodic death metal bands, Kalmah and Eternal Tears of Sorrow formed in Pudasjärvi.

Nature Spot
The Hampusvaara Act on Lake Iinattijärvi is a popular rock climbing destination. The legal point of Jaurakkavaara, located in the southeastern part of Lake Pudasjärvi, rises to 340 meters above sea level. Compared to the surface of Lake Jaurakkajärvi , the height of the peak is 216 meters. At the top of Jaurakkavaara, there is a hiking trail called Kupson’s Invitation, which includes three route options. Puolakkavaara rises high above the marshes of western Pudasjärvi in the village of Siurua . The danger since the ice age has been the Litorine Seaisland and from these times a “shore rock” of about five hectares has formed into danger. There are also many fire watchtowers in danger.
Located in Puhoskylä, Julmaharju is an ensemble of primeval ridge forests, fountains , fens and small ponds. Several endangered fungal species have been found in the Harju area in the Finnish Association for Nature’s research. Near the Ruuhensuo settlement area in Sarakylä is the steep gorge lake Kaunislampi, formed by a continental glacier . Tourists have been throwing coins and making wishes for decades at the clear-water Kirkashete in the village of Korpinen .
The spark of contact are Iijoki free-flowing rapids of the most vuolaimmat. The rapids are located in the village of Kipinä near Highway 20 and are about 100 meters wide. During the summer, fly fishermen congregate on the rapids and Iijokisoutu also culminates in the rapids .
The God ‘s Tomb, located in the village of Korpinen in the southeast corner of Lake Pudasjärvi, is a 30-meter-diameter and 15-meter-deep boiler-like Hiidenkirnu , the surface of which is covered with stones the size of a human head. The 20-meter-deep Portinkuru, which is difficult to navigate in some places, is located along the FAQ route between Syötte and the village of Pintamo. Kuru is part of Syötte National Park . Vattukuru, carved by the meltwater of the last ice age about 10,000 years ago, is located along a 2.1-kilometer nature trail from Iso- Syötte in the direction of Taivalkoski . The European Union’s oldest bedrock is Siurua village Siuruankankaalla , where the rocks are 3.5 billion years old. They have been polished by many ice ages and were once located in the Equatorial region.
The most significant mire conservation areas in Pudasjärvi are Litokaira, one of the largest mire conservation areas in Europe, and Olvassuo and Hirvisuo . In the central part of Lake Pudasjärvi, large western marshes become threats to the Northeast . The area is located in the almost natural state of Ohtavaara – Ohtosensuo . Ohtosensuo is one of the mire protection areas established in Pudasjärvi. The area has unspoilt marshes, old forest islands and several ponds. The height difference between Ohtosenlampi and the marshland and Ohtavaara is considerably large. On the danger slope there are lush grove-like creek stalksand numerous sources . On the slopes of Ohtavaara, with elevation curves of 190–210 meters, there are kilometers-long ancient seashore ramparts, or damn fields .

Cultural sites
The Pudasjärvi Local History Museum, which covers an area of about three hectares, is one of the largest local history museums in Northern Finland. There are almost twenty buildings in the area, containing more than 8,000 objects.
The current Pudasjärvi church was completed in 1781. In the immediate vicinity of the church building are a chapel and a bell tower, the top of which is decorated with the only known outdoor paintings by Mikael Toppelius . 417 people from Pudasjärvi who fell during the Winter, Continuation and Lapland Wars have been buried in Pudasjärvi Cemetery. The hero memorial, designed by artist Paavo Tolonen and made of stone and bronze, was unveiled in 1978. In Relief, a soldier and a mother with their children build a new future in a war-torn world.
The first pastor of Pudasjärvi , Josephus Palmannus, and his family drowned in Pudasjärvi while returning from Pentecostal Church in 1666. A stone monument has been erected in the churchyard to commemorate what happened . 962 people starved to death during the great years of famine in Pudasjärvi between 1866 and 1868. There is a monument erected in the courtyard of the church in memory of these people. The Lapland War Memorial is located in the village of Kipinä at the intersection of Highway 20 and Hetekyläntie. The first armed confrontation between Finnish and German forces took place on September 28, 1944. A memorial to Aittojärvi has been erected to commemorate the second battle in Pudasjärvi , where Finns crossed the Iijoki River from Kipinä.
The home exhibition of sculptor, painter and photographer Kari Tykkyläinen is open in summer in Konttila, Yli-Siurua, near the main road 78 . The home studio of the painter Paavo Ahonen is located in Kipliä village in Yli-Kollaja . Sculptor and poet Eero Räisänen’s summer exhibition “Eeten” is located on the banks of the Iijoki River in Parkkila in the village of Pudasjärvi. In addition, the works of artists from various fields are constantly on display in the city library.
Recreational swimming pool Puikkari is a swimming pool built at the turn of the millennium in the municipal center of Kurena . Around the Pudasjärvi Aviation Center is one of the largest gliding areas in Europe, the G41 . Kelosyöte holiday village nearby is a couple of kilometers-long Goblin Trail .
Events
The Cultural Office regularly organizes art exhibitions in the Art Room Pohjantähti. The most notable artists living in or from Pudasjärvi are Kari Tykkyläinen , Paavo Tolonen , Jorma Luhta , Janne Räisänen , Tapani Kokko , Antti Estamaa , Maarit Bergman , Esko Männikkö and Martti Aiha .
The Cultural Office and the Pudasjärvi Parish jointly organize a homeland festival every year, which is held in the area of the Homeland Museum and in the church. The traditional Pudasjärvi Market is one of the largest Northern Finland market . The week-long Sunny Night Fly-in, a gathering of aviation enthusiasts, was held for the first time in July 2006.
Development activities are organized annually on the first weekend of September in the village to cook! an event where fairly freely formed teams compete in a cooking competition.
Food culture
Pudasjärven pitäjäruoiksi was named in the 1980s kuivalihavelli , barley flatbread , bread cheese and karpalokiisseli .
Health Care
Pudasjärvi Health Center has a laboratory , X-ray , clinic , physical therapy, hemodialysis unit , diabetes clinic , mental health unit and a 52-bed ward . The dental clinic also operates in connection with the health center. Health care in Pudasjärvi is organized by the Oulunkaari Consortium of Municipalities.
Education
In the center of Pudasjärvi there is the Lakari school and the Hirsikampus , where a unified school and a high school work together. The log campus opened in August 2016, and is the largest log building in the world. In sparsely populated areas, there are schools in Hirvaskoski , Kipinä, Sarakylä and Syötte. Pudasjärvi High School also operates on the log campus .
Teaching at the Pudasjärvi Vocational School is organized by the Oulu Region Vocational College (OSAO), which is administered by the Oulu Region Association of Education Municipalities (OSEKK). The vocational school offers training in natural resources, electricity, tourism and wood, as well as a training program in horse breeding.
In addition to its more traditional education, Pudasjärvi Citizens’ College also organizes open university courses in cooperation with the University of Oulu .
