Royal Manufacture of Tapestries De Wit

Belgium

The Royal Manufacture of Tapestries De Wit is a company, founded in 1889 in Mechelen , specialized in the restoration of tapestries. De Wit weaves, conserves, buys, sells tapestries and regularly organizes exhibitions on this theme.

The Tapestries Manufacture is world famous. The restorers restore valuable tapestries by hand. Partly thanks to the up-to-date cleaning and conservation systems, De Wit receives commissions from the most important European and American museums and collections. In addition, the Manufactuur has a prestigious collection of antique and modern tapestries. The factory can be visited regularly.

It receives thousands of visitors every year. Weaving is done by hand according to age-old techniques. Since 1898, De Wit has also conserved antique tapestries. She masters traditional methods and modern, reversible conservation methods, which she has developed and systematically expanded. This determines its international reputation. Moreover, De Wit maintains close contacts with major museums.
