Saint-Loup Church of Namur

Belgium

The Saint-Loup church is a Catholic religious building located in the center of the city of Namur ( Belgium ).

Arrived in Namur in 1610 , the Jesuits took over a small college there, enlarging it and then building, attached to the college, a church dedicated to Saint Ignatius, the founder of the Society of Jesus . Pierre Huyssens , the master of Belgian baroque, was its architect . He did not see its completion, however, because the construction of the church, which had started smoothly in 1620, slowed down for lack of funds and finally lasted 20 years: from 1621 to 1641 (year of the frame ). Four more years of work were necessary before its inauguration and consecration by the bishop of Namur , Englebert Dubois (1645 ).
