Salem Medical Centre was founded in 1936 by Dr. Josephine Conway. She was joined by her son Dr. Joe and the practice was expanded with the arrival of Drs Jack Meehan and John Brangan.

In 2015 , the surgery moved from Wicklow Town to its purpose built modern facility located in the Wicklow Primary Healthcare Centre.
