Schiltigheim is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Grand Est in north-eastern France. The inhabitants are called Schilikois in French and Scheligemer in Alsatian.
It is the largest suburb of the city of Strasbourg, and is adjacent to it on Strasbourg’s north side. In 2017, Schiltigheim was the third-most populous commune in the Bas-Rhin (after Strasbourg and Haguenau), with a total population of 31,894.

History
The town dates back to the 9th century, when it grew around the Sciltung castle and the Bothebür chapel in a place called Skitingsdtböhel.

The present or former home of a number of breweries, Schiltigheim is known for the “fête de la bière” beer festival in August.

Exhibition venues
Schiltigheim hosts permanent or temporary exhibitions at the Town Hall and in the Halles du Scilt.
There are two public exhibition venues in Schiltigheim: the Salle de l’Aquarium located in the Town Hall, and the 1st floor of the Halles du Scilt . The Aquarium Room is sometimes used as an exhibition space, but it is also used for communal and associative events. The 1st floor of the Halles du Scilt is a real exhibition space, specially designed to exhibit works of art. It hosts a new temporary exhibition every 2-3 months.

Memoirs of Schiltigheim 1860-1939
From a rural town in 1860, Schiltigheim became an industrial town in the second half of the 19th century, with the arrival of breweries and industries . The exhibition: “Memories of Schiltigheim 1860-1939” organized by the City of Schiltigheim at Ferme Linck presents images of this past and traces of this work culture at a time when the city was the capital of beer and the food industry in Alsace.

Libraries and Multimedia
The City of Schiltigheim has an associative library managed by the Association-Livres, and soon a sector media library : the Médiathèque Nord, managed by the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg.
