Originally, the school was housed in a monumental school building on the Vest. The school derives its name from its location on the Vest: the canal around the center of Dordrecht.
This school building was built in 1913 and had 15 classrooms on the ground, first and second floors. Part of the basement was used for lunchtime rest, other parts were used as a bicycle cellar and as storage for toddler outdoor toys. The school library was located in the attic. In August 2002 the school got two classrooms in a building on the square. We called this outbuilding the ‘Cloakroom’. But as the school continued to grow, the Cloakroom did not solve our lack of classrooms. It was decided to have a new school building designed based on our vision and the thoughts that parents and students had about our school and what a nice school should look like.
In the 2009-2010 school year, our ‘dream’ came true and the construction of our new school building started. And in October 2010 the time had come! Our new school on the Blekersdijk was ready and could be involved together with our partners, playgroup Pippeloentje and SDK childcare . With a fantastic opening party and a schoolyard concert, we celebrated this with all children and parents. And from that moment on, our school is located at Blekersdijk. The school now consists of 17 group classrooms, a handicraft classroom, two kindergarten playrooms, a playgroup, two out-of-school care rooms, a library and an auditorium.
Our school building reflects our vision on children and education: the building is open and playful, it invites you to discover, to work independently and to meet. The building provides space to play, learn and develop.
