  • Renaissance castle

It was built in 1277 on the site of the tower of Simon the son of Solomon. It lived its heyday between 1277 and 1543, when it was successively owned by several nationally famous noble families (Laczkfiak, Kanizsaiak, Ozorai Pipó, Garaiak). It served as a border fortress in the battles against the Turks and was later occupied by the Turks. It was taken back from the Turks in September 1686. During the Rákóczi War of Independence , in the autumn of 1704, Heister captured the castle with an Austrian general, and then János Bottyánrecaptured (November 11, 1705). After the war of independence, the castle started to be destroyed, it lost its military significance, it was also used as a warehouse and a residential building. In 1954, the roof of the big tower collapsed. At that time, it seemed that the castle would finally be mine. In 1964, the National Monument decided that it was worth saving the castle. Restoration work has begun, the results of which can still be seen. Nowadays, temporary or permanent exhibitions are organized, and traditional games are held in the surroundings during the summer.
