St. Roch’s Hospital

The St. Roch’s Hospital in Budapest and one in Europe is one of the oldest public hospital in the Józsefváros work. At the time of the hospital’s establishment, their nurses were the sisters of the Márta Kékkeresztes Patient Care Association, the “Martens”, who left their current moral support to their descendants. 

Inpatient wards, 300 beds, cardiology-gastroenterology-neurology-internal medicine, gynecological rehabilitation, chronic internal medicine care are provided. The institution is an educational hospital, thus participating in the postgraduate theoretical and practical training of health professionals, speech therapists, college and university students, and graduates. Healing, rehabilitation and chronic care can be used by both health insurance and paying patients.

  • The ophthalmology department is still one of the most busy departments of the Hospital through cataract surgery and artificial lens implantation. In the 1990s, since the beginning of the first cornealaboratóriuma works in the country where preserved human corneas are made of surgical applications.
  • Ear-nose-throat, head-neck surgery department. It had been operating as a branch of the Department of Internal Medicine since 1887. In 1970, modern microsurgical and facial nerve surgical procedures were introduced, complemented by classic ear surgeries in addition to hearing-correcting surgeries. Here, sound prosthesis implantation was used for the first time in the country.
  • Department of Dental and Oral Surgery, which no longer deals not only with the treatment of oral and dental diseases, but also with the full spectrum of the field of facial surgery.
