Sunderby Hospital is the competence center for the whole of Norrbotten’s healthcare. The hospital is a county hospital with specialist functions but is also a local hospital for Luleå residents and residents of Boden.

At Sunderby Hospital, both acute and planned activities are conducted in all specialist areas except thoracic and neurosurgery.

The maternity ward is the largest north of Uppsala with just over 1,900 births per year. The hospital takes care of all emergency operations in the county, except for patients from the Ore Fields.
