The Sint-Antoniuskerk

Belgium

The Sint-Antoniuskerk is a church in the Belgian city of Kortrijk . She is located in the Veemarktbuurt and is dedicated to Anthony of Padua . The church is a protected monument .

  • The interior of the church is painted in neo-Gothic style, with decorative motifs applied with stencils. This work was performed by Willem Deumens from Venlo in the years 1894 – 1895 .
  • Adoration of the Lamb above the main altar. This scene, like the other scenes on the sides of the choir, is painted on canvas and then glued to the wall. These scenes represent the seven sorrows of Mary, three on each side, with the Descent from the Cross in semi-exalted sculpture under the altar.
  • The high altar with the retable is carved in white French stone and polychrome. It was designed by Charles Delbaere in 1882 – 1885 . The sculpture groups of OLV van Smarten and the Piëta are also by this artist.
  • The neo-Gothic style stained glass windows , installed in 1924 , were made by the Osterrath workshop in Tilft, near Liège. The drawings and colors fit in well with the interior of the church.
