The Tchantchès Museum

Belgium

The Tchantches Museum (French: Musée Tchantchès ) is a museum in the Belgian city of Liège .

Tchantches , Liège’s mascot, is a cheeky, freedom-loving, brave figure who likes to drink a glass of peket (a kind of gin ) and would embody the typical characteristics of a native of Liège. He is usually portrayed as a puppet in traditional dress. He is said to have been born in 760 between the paving stones of Outremeuse . Bravely and chaotically, he later served Charlemagne , with his big nose as the only weapon. His propensity for bragging is usually quelled by his equally colorful wife Nanèsse.

The small museum in Liège dedicated to Tchantches has costumes, puppets and memorabilia; there is also a theater for performances.
